Our Lady Queen of Heaven, Queensway, Bayswater (Roman Catholic)

Built in 1865 for Methodists, it became a Roman Catholic church in 1954. The church is at first floor level and accessed via staircases from the street level doors.

St Mary, Paddington Green

Now almost next to the noisy Westway. It is a church of 1788-91 by John Plaw, restored by Raymond Erith and Quinlan Terry in 1972-74.

St Matthew, St Petersburgh Place, Bayswater

A huge church of 1881-82 by J. Johnson. The interior is relatively little changed with a shallow chancel and a big western gallery.

St Sophia Greek Orthodox cathedral, Moscow Road, bayswater

Not far north of Kensington Gardens. An impressive domed church designed by John Oldrid Scott, 1877, and a cathedral since 1932

St Andrew, Maylands Park, Albany Park

In the Albany Park Estate east of Sidcup. It dates from 1964 by Braddock, Martin-Smith and Lipley. Built on a slope with halls underneath and a church on top. There are now (Jan 2024) only two Anglican services a month and the building is administered by the New Community Church.

 

St James, North Cray

On the edge of attractive parkland bordering the Cray Valley. The church was rebuilt by Edwin Nash in 1850-52 (nave) and 1871 (chancel). The tower was added in 1857.

 

St Mary, Park Hill Road, Bexley

The original parish church for Bexley in a wooded churchyard east of Old Bexley village centre. It dates from the 13th century but was heavily restored by Basil Champneys in 1882-83.

 

St John Fisher, Thanet Road, Bexley (Roman Catholic)

Close to the centre of Old Bexley, it is a building of 1974-74 by Ivor Day and O’Brien.

St John the Evangelist, Park Hill Road, Bexley

A large prominent building on the west side of Bexley. The architect was G. Low and it was built in 1881-82.

St James the Great, Penhill Road, Blendon

A suburban hall church of 1937, the chancel is separated from the nave which is effectively a hall area.
