Bethlem Royal Hospital chapel, Monks Orchard Road, Beckenham
The hospital which deals with mental illness moved here in 1930 from what is now the Imperial War Museum. A freestanding chapel just inside the entrance gates was built. The architects were Elcock & Sutcliffe with the chapel being designed by Ralph Maynard Smith. Despite damage in 1944 there are several period fittings extant. One corner at the back is now a small Muslim prayer area but the building retains more traditional church fittings than many hospital chapels.
