St Vincent, Waldegrave Road, Becontree (Roman Catholic)

1932-34 designed by Geoffrey Raymond at the north west end of the estate.

St Margaret of Antioch, Perth Road, Ilford

Well north of the town centre, it dates from 1913-14 and is by Edwin T. Dunn.

St Mary the Virgin, High Road, Ilford

This is Ilford parish church. The nave is by James Savage 1829-31, the tower added by Arthur Ashpitel in 1865-66. The unmatched chancel was added 1919-20 by Edwin T. Dunn and a south chapel by J. Harold Gibbons 1928-29. The large paintings of the Stations of the Cross are by E.A. Fellowes-Prynne.

St John the Evangelist, Aldborough Lane South, Seven Kings

The chancel and eastern nave by J.E.K. Cutts and J.P. Cutts 1902-03, the western part of the nave 1906, and the aisles finished by Cutts, Davis & Boddy 1913-14. In 1989-1990 the church interior was realigned by 180 degrees and divided. The Baptistry became the Sanctuary, with the western half of the nave becoming a worship area and gaining a large new stained glass window by Derek Hunt in 2005. The two arts and crafts windows in the former baptistry are by Louis Davis from 1908.The eastern end of the nave became an entry area and lounge and the chancel became a hall area with a kitchen in the north aisle and the south chancel chapel is now a storeroom.

St Paul, Barley Lane, Goodmayes

By Chancellor & Sons, 1903-29, a little way north of the station.

St John the Evangelist, North Road, Havering-atte-Bower

High up with views over Essex and London, by the village green. It dates from 1875-78 and was designed by Basil Champneys. It replaced a small medieval church which is illustrated inside and below. A number of memorials from that church, mostly early 19th century are reset in this building. Inside the chancel no longer has choir stalls

Ascension, Collier Row Road, Collier Row

At one end of the town centre it was originally a mission church but is now a parish church. It is by Ernest C. Lee 1884.

Church of the Good Shepherd, Collier Row Lane, Collier Row

A very conservative looking church of 1934-35 by Newberry & Fowler. The chancel is now almost devoid of furnishings apart from the altar

Barnado Village Church, Tanner’s Lane, Barkingside

The church for a now defunct “village” built for Barnado’s. It is by Ebenezer Gregg 1892.
