St Paul, Tiverton Road, Ruisip Gardens

Deep in suburbia a church of 1936 by N.F. Cachemaille-Day. The south aisle was added in 1952.

St Gregory the Great, Victoria Road, South Ruislip (Roman Catholic)

On the main road towards Ruislip, an oval church of 1965-1967 by Gerald Goalen. The baptistry glass is by Patrick Reyntiens, the other windows were added in 1987-1989 and are dalle de verre by Charles Norris.

 

St Mary, The Fairway, South Ruislip

In a smart suburban street not far from South Ruislip station, this is a church of 1958-59 designed by Laurence King. It was closed for 5 years up to June 2024 for asbestos removal and other renovation work. The external crucifixion is by Brian Asquith as is the font decoration. The Virgin and child carving is by John Hayward and the stained glass by Keith New.

St John (former), Uxbridge Moor

Closed in 1993 and now converted to housing, this church was right on the Buckinghamshire border west of the town centre. It dates from 1838 and is by Henry Atkinson.

St Andrew, Uxbridge

At the south end of the town centre, but separated from the High Street by the ring road. It is a prominent landmark, designed by G.G. Scott in 1865. The wooden screen is by W.R. Lethaby from 1927.

St Margaret, Uxbridge

In the centre of the town on an island site behind the market hall. There is a large south aisle of 1443 dominating an earlier nave, north aisle, and tower. The restoration was by G.G. Scott 1882-85. In 1985-88 Michael Reardon and Associates re-ordered and divided the church so that the south aisle is now the nave with the altar at the west end, the chancel is now a chapel, and the nave and north aisle a coffee shop with a room above.

Our Lady of Lourdes and St Michael, Uxbridge (Roman Catholic)

Sandwiched between the ring road and shopping centre is this church of 1931 designed by T.H.B. Scott.

St Matthew, High Street, Yiewsley

Joined to West Drayton, but north of the railway line and firmly in the main shopping area stands this church of two parts. The nave is by Nicholson & Corlette 1897-98, the north aisle was the original church and is by G.G. Scott dating from 1858-59. This aisle is now separated off to form a hall area, with a modern extension and the chancel area forms a small Lady Chapel.

St Catherine, The Green, West Drayton (Roman Catholic)

Opposite the large green west of the shopping area, this is a church of 1869 by Wilson & Nicholl. The top of the tower was completed as late as 1985.

St Martin, Church Road, West Drayton

In a secluded churchyard away from the main shopping area. basically a 13th century church, restored 1850-52 by Charles Innes. In 1974/75 the orientation was reversed making the chancel the entrance area and the altar is in front of the tower arch.
