Christ Church, Down Street, Mayfair

Not far from Piccadilly is this church of 1865 by F & H Francis. It is now the base for an evangelical Anglican plant. A fire in 1906 led to a rebuilding by R.L. Hesketh

Ukranian Catholic Cathedral of the Holy Family in Exile formerly The King’s Weigh House Chapel, Duke Street, Mayfair

A little way south of Oxford Street it was originally built as a Congregational Chapel in 1889-91 and designed by Alfred Waterhouse. It became an eastern rite Catholic church in 1967.

Holy Cross (new church), Ferrymead Gardens, Greenford

At right angles to and sharing the churchyard of its medieval predecessor. This is a large church of 1939 by Sir Albert Richardson.

Holy Cross (old church), Ferrymead Gardens, Greenford

A small medieval village church which now shares a churchyard with its 1930s successor. The glass in the chancel comes from Kings College Cambridge.

St Hugh of Lincoln, Kensington Road, Northolt

A small church of 1970 in eastern Northolt. It is by I. Nellist.

St Richard, Sussex Crescent, Northolt

The church for the Racecourse estate north of Northolt station. It is a hall of 1960.

St Barnabas, Raglan Way, Northolt Park

A suburban church facing a very quiet dual carriageway. It is by J. Harold Gibbons started in 1939 but not completed until after WW2 in 1954. The stained glass is by Margaret E.E. Rope from the mid 1950s. Inside the Lady Chapel is raised up at first floor level above the chancel.

St Bernard, Mandeville Road, Northolt (Roman Catholic)

On the main road through Northolt. It dates from 1964-65 and is by Scott and Jacques.

St Mary, Northolt Green

Still a small village church in an attractive backwater just off the main road through Northolt. The nave is early 14th century, the chancel was added in 1521.

St Joseph the Worker, Yeading Lane, Northolt

By the same architects as the ground breaking St Paul, Bow Common. There is an uncompromising exterior but a light and airy interior. It is by Maguire and Murray and dates from 1967-69.
