St Mary, Cadogan Street, Chelsea (Roman Catholic)

By the leading RC architect John Francis Bentley 1877-78 but incorporating part of A.W.N. Pugin’s earlier church on the site. A church whose interior is far more satisfying than its exterior.

St Luke, Sydney Street, Chelsea

An early and relatively scholarly gothic revival church. The designer was James Savage in 1820-24. The large east window is by Hugh Easton from 1959.

St Columba, Pont Street, Knightsbridge (Church of Scotland)

The Church of Scotland’s premier London church opened in 1955, but begun in 1950, it was designed by Edward Maufe. It replaced a 19th-century church that was badly damaged by wartime bombing. The church is on the first floor and is impressively lofty. There is a memorial chapel to the London Scottish Regiment to the left of the sanctuary.

St Pancras New Church, Woburn Place, Euston

A Greek revival church designed by the Inwoods in 1819-1822. Opposite Euston station. The interior is rather dark as every window is filled with Clayton & Bell glass.

St Mary, Eversholt Street

An early and very fanciful gothic revival church just up the road from Euston Station. Designed by W. & H.W. Inwood in 1822-1826. An enlarged chancel was added by Ewan Christian in 1888.

All Saints, Camden Street, Camden Town (Greek Orthodox)

Built by  W & H.W. Inwood  1822-24, but a Greek Orthodox Church since 1948 with a typical interior of giant chandeliers and an iconostasis in front of the altar.

St Saviour, Eton Road, South Hampstead

A typical Victorian ragstone church a short way from Chalk Farm Station. It was built by E.M. Barry in 1855-56. The tower was added in 1864.

St Mary, Bow Road, Bow

Surrounded on all sites by busy roads this is one of only two Tower Hamlets medieval churches.

St Peter, Eaton Square, Belgravia

A classical church of 1827 by Henry Hakewill which has been impressively rebuilt behind the facade following fire damage in the 1990s.
