Guardian Angels, Mile End Road, Mile End, E3 4QS (Roman Catholic)
Facing on to the Mile End Road next to the green bridge that carries Mile End Park across the road. Built in 1901-02 by F.A. Walters. The nave is dominated by a large immersion baptistry.

Our Lady and St Catherine, Bow Road, Bow (Roman Catholic)
Over the road from the Anglican Bow Church. It was formerly a convent church. Designed by Gilbert Blount in 1869-70. The transept was added in 1882 by A.E. Purdie.

All Hallows, Devons Road, Bow
A church of 1873-74 by Ewan Christian, badly damaged in WW2 and rebuilt 1954-55 by A.P. Robinson of Caroe and Partners. At the rebuilding, the chancel was refurbished as the worship space and divided off by a glass screen from the nave which became a hall. To cope with increased use the nave is now, again, the worship space but facing the south wall, and the chancel is used for a variety of purposes. Outside the wall around the east end has been replaced by a narrow curved public cafe added since my visit in 2013. That set of images is retained at the end as a comparison with the current look of the church.

St James the Less, St James Avenue, Bethnal Green
The church was by Lewis Vulliamy in 1842 but reconstructed by J. Antony Lewis in 1960-61 within the side walls after war damage. The west end glass is by Keith New.

St Paul and St Stephen, St Stephen’s Road, Old Ford
Originally by Newman and Billing and dating from 1873-78. It was disused from 1993 to 2003 when it was converted to a variety of uses by Matthew Lloyd Architects who inserted a large multi floored structure into the building retaining the chancel and nave east end as a worship space. At some point the top of the tower was lost.

Holy Trinity (former), Morgan Street, Mile End (now Epainos Ministries – New Testament Church of God) and The Heritage & Arts Centre (The HAC Bow)
Originally a proprietary chapel of 1834-39 by Daniel and James Austin. The chancel and east chapels were added in a matching style by Edwin B. Simson in 1910-1914. It soon became a parish church before becoming redundant in 1984. The New Testament Church of God took it over 1996 and meet in the hall attached to the east end. The church is now being converted into a community arts centre.

St Barnabas, Grove Road, Bethnal Green
On a prominent corner site on the border of Bow and Bethnal Green. It was built in 1865 as a non conformist chapel but acquired by the Church of England in 1870. It was designed by William Wigginton. In the second world war it was bombed out and rebuilt within the original walls in 1957 to the designs of J. Antony Lewis. The Stations images are incomplete as the remaining ones are hidden behind the mirrors screening theatrical props as outside services the church is used as a professional rehearsal space.
