St John the Baptist, Uxbridge Road, Hillingdon

On top of Hillingdon Hill and unlike most churches in the area very much open. The tower is from 1629 and the nave and aisles are 14th-century but the chancel and transepts are from 1847-48 by George Gilbert Scott.

St Laurence, Cowley

A small village church east of the main road to Uxbridge and not far from fields. The church is 12th century with a 13th century chancel, all restored in 1897. Inside there is an unusual two level gallery and an openwork wooden structure where the chancel arch would normally be.

St Jerome, Judge Heath Lane, West Hayes (Dawley)

North west of Hayes a church of 1933 by J. Harold Gibbons. The tower forms an arch linking the church and its halls.

St Anselm, Station Road, Hayes

In the centre of Hayes’ shopping area. A church of 1926-28 by Hubert C. Corlette. The ceiling decoration is by McKenzie Gill, brother of the notorious Eric.

Christ Church, Waltham Avenue, Harlington

North of the M4, in the Pinkwell area. A small church of 1965, now linked to St Jerome in Dawley rather than Harlington..

St Peter and St Paul, Harlington

A couple of miles north of Heathrow Airport and almost next to the M4 but still, despite the noise and pollution near a real farm field. The highlight is the Norman south porch, the nave is 12th century, the aisles 19th century and tower of around 1500 and the south porch is 16th century

St Mary, Church Lane, Chessington

The old village church of Chessington, now surrounded by housing. basically a 13th-century building with restorations by R. Hesketh (bell-turret 1854) and T.G. Jackson (south aisle 1870).

St Paul, Hook Road, Hook

On the main road north of the shopping area. It is by Carpenter and Ingelow and dates from 1881-83.

Our Lady Immaculate, Tolworth (Roman Catholic)

At one end of the town centre, a large basilica of 1956-58 by W.C. Mangan.

Emmanuel, Grand Avenue, Tolworth

Some way north east of the town centre, architect unknown, dating from 1935 with a post war wooden western extension.
