It was Father Coffey’s determination that had this church built.
I remember seeing his coffin placed on the beams below the floor.
I was at St Augustine’s primary school and remember when the church was being built. The old one was more like a hut. As part of the fundraising we used to donate 6d and were given a paper representation of a brick. So some of my pocket money went towards the church building.
