St Michael and All Angels, Bishop Ken Road, Harrow Weald

A church of 1958 by T.F. Ford was added to the original church of 1935 that then became a hall. The church has a large mural by Hans Feibusch behind the altar and four smaller ones of the apostles in the spandrels of the nave.


In recent years the further end of the old church has been demolished to give access to a new housing development. The front of the church has gained a glassed narthex and some meeting rooms off to one side.

St Oswald, Brocks Drive, Cheam

Very much a suburban church. This is by Thomas F. Ford and dates from 1953. The hall at the west end was originally the church and was built in 1936 to designs by T.P. Carr (final two images).

St James, Martin Way, Merton

Two churches at right angles to each other. The older one was built in 1934 as a hall and church and became a hall when the newer one facing the street was built in 1956-57. Both are by T.F. Ford. The current church features murals by Hans Feibusch and glass by John Hayward. The older building is shown at the end of the images. There is a separate Lady Chapel off the lobby linking the hall and church.

St Mark, Clapham Road, Kennington

In a large churchyard opposite Oval station. It dates from 1822-24 by D.R. Roper and A.B. Clayton. It was damaged in WW2 and restored by T.F. Ford in 1960.

St John, Waterloo Road, Waterloo

Built 1822-24 and designed by Francis Bedford. The interior was restored after war damage by T.F. Ford in 1951. The church reopened in October 2022 with a restored nave, crypt, and a new narthex with a glass screen looking into the nave. The pulpit has been removed, the font resited against a wall, and different seating installed. The paintings on the sanctuary wall and reredos are by Hans Feibusch. This £5.5 million work was designed by Eric Parry Architects.

St George, Hamilton Avenue, Tolworth

Behind the town centre, a church of 1934 by T.F. Ford. The interior (Feb 2014) is currently stripped out.

St Mary, Wickham Street, Welling

North west of the town centre, a prominent church of 1954 by Thomas F. Ford. The large ascension is by Hans Feibusch, the paintings above the passage aisles and stained glass were designed by Clare Dawson.

St Michael, Upper Wickham Lane, East Wickham

In a large shared churchyard, this building replaced the medieval church which is now the Greek Orthodox church of Christ the Saviour. It was designed by Thomas F. Ford and built in 1933.

St Peter, Pickford Lane, Bexleyheath

A suburban church in the northern part of Bexleyheath. It was designed by Thomas F. Ford and built in 1957. Inside there are three Hans Feibusch paintings behind the altar and a painted dome also by Feibusch. A small chapel that is kept open is attached at the rear and is shown in the final three images.

 

St David, Westbourne Road, Lower Holloway

Undergoing rebuilding (first photo taken February 2013) and re-opened in November 2013.  Originally by E.L. Blackburne 1866-1869 and rebuilt after a fire in 1935-36 by T.F. Ford.
